Cherry Bakewell Old Fashioned

Cherry Bakewell Old Fashioned

Cherry Bakewell Old Fashioned

A new take on one of the most venerable of cocktails. A favourite of Abraham Lincoln this Fraiser version is strong and punchy yet easy to drink.

Ingredients

  • Equal parts of:
  • Fraiser
  • Cherry Brandy or Liqueur (Cherry Heering or Cherry Marnier are good options)
  • Scotch Whisky (I prefer a good Highland in this recipe)

If you have a particularly sweet tooth – or you use a particularly dry cherry liqueur then you can add a teaspoon of caster sugar to this recipe.

  • Cubed ice
  • Block ice (this drink is best served over a big block of ice if you have access to it)
  • 1 Cherry Bakewell
  • 1 Glace Cherry (or maraschino cherry or fresh cherry)

If you are using a standard sized old-fashioned glass (around 10oz) then 30ml of each ingredient is a good-sized ratio.

Equipment

  • Cocktail tin or mixing glass (this drink is stirred)
  • Hawthorn strainer
  • Bar spoon (or stirring implement)
  • Old fashioned glass (or whisky glass or similar)

Method

1. Add Fraiser, Cherry Brandy and Scotch to mixing glass or tin.

2. Add cubed ice and stir. Don’t over dilute – this drink is best chilled but not sub-zero. 30 times for this drink is a good rule of thumbs (so 30 stirs)

3. Strain over fresh ice into the glass (preferably block)

4. Garnish with your choice of cherry

5. Serve with Cherry Bakewell on the side.

6. Eat. Drink. And Be Happy.
